Use Of Pressurized Oil Gun to Prefill Lube Filters Can Cause Damage.

The use of a pressurized lube oil gun to prefill lube filters prior to installation can result in damage to the filter media or other filter components

Lube filters are designed to withstand great pressures when oil is forced from outside the filter element and flowing inward. Filling them with a pressurized oil gun can cause the filter media to tear when oil is forced from inside the element outward.

For example, Baldwin’s BD103 filter has a bypass element seal visible in the centre of the threaded base plate. It is tempting to use a pressurized oil gun, seated into this rubber seal, to speed the process of prefilling the filter. This can cause the bypass filter media to dislodge, voiding the filter warranty.

Add a bypass filter for longer equipment life.
